Hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. Here are a few updates on happenings around the neighborhood:

Copper Bandits Strike Again. Several incidents involving theft of AT&T copper wires have occurred throughout Dallas, including Perry Heights, over the past few years. We woke up on June 22 to find a downed AT&T telephone pool across Prescott near Rawlins. It was the second incident on Prescott in a matter of days causing over $40,000 in damage according to AT&T representatives.

The AT&T Lead Investigator Matt Wilkins expressed appreciation to Perry Heights residents who were able to share video footage of the culprits. Our off-duty patrol officers also altered Dallas Police investigator in charge of catching these guys. We’re told they wear hard hats and yellow vests to look official and typically strike between 3-5am.

Herschel/Lemmon Wall to the replaced soon. The Perry Heights Association received payment from State Farm this week to pay for the wall damage that occurred on May 15. The repair work, to be performed by Hilltop Concrete, is expected to be completed by August 15. Thank you for your patience and kudos to Patrick Burton and Rene Reyes who put up the temporary barrier and sourced the contractor for the repairs!

Some Rawlins homes moving to curbside trash pickup. The City of Dallas Sanitation Department announced a very scaled back plan to implement curbside trash pickup involving only 6000 homes. This is a result of overwhelming citizen objections over the past two years.

Homes on the even-numbered side of the 4400 Rawlins will transition to curbside pickup on February 1. Other Perry Heights homes will not be impacted. Presumably, the odd-numbered side of Vandelia, which has dealt with curbside pickup since 2021, will continue with curbside pickup.

This is a big win for Keep Alley Trash, a grassroots organization formed last year to challenge the move to curbside pickup. Over 10,000 residents signed the petition to maintain alley trash pickup.
