The Dallas Police Department Expanded Neighborhood Patrol (ENP) is a critical initiative that allows neighborhoods like Perry Heights to hire off-duty, armed, and uniformed officers to provide additional patrols in a marked Dallas Police vehicle.
This program is authorized by the Dallas Police Department (DPD). It serves as a supplement to regular police patrols, which are often stretched thin due to limited resources and a growing population. The main goal of the ENP is to enhance police presence in the neighborhood, thereby reducing crime and increasing the safety and security of residents.
Importance of ENP to Our Neighborhood:
- Enhanced Safety and Security: By providing additional patrols, the ENP significantly deters crime, including burglary, vandalism, and reckless driving making our neighborhood safer for all residents.
- Dedicated Attention: ENP officers are familiar with our neighborhood’s specific needs and crime trends, offering personalized and attentive service that regular patrols cannot always provide.
- Immediate Response: Participation in the ENP ensures faster response times to emergency calls and concerns, far exceeding the typical response time of non-ENP officers.
- Crime Deterrence: The visible presence of marked DPD cars and uniformed officers patrolling our streets acts as a strong deterrent to potential criminals.
Benefits of Participation in the Perry Heights ENP Program
- Vacation Protection: Members can request extra surveillance of their homes while away, ensuring peace of mind during vacations or business trips.
- Security Audits: ENP officers provide security reviews of properties, offering valuable tips to enhance home safety.
- Increased Patrol Hours: Contributions from members directly influence the number of patrol hours the neighborhood can afford, leading to a more substantial police presence.
- Exclusive Member Benefits: Beyond the enhanced security measures, members enjoy benefits such as the ability to have ENP officers make police reports for incidents that occur during their shift, tailored security programs, and potentially faster and more efficient handling of reckless drivers and illegal solicitation.
In summary, the ENP program is an invaluable asset for the Perry Heights neighborhood, offering enhanced safety, security, and peace of mind for its residents. The program’s success is directly tied to the participation and support of the community, making it a collective effort towards a safer neighborhood. the ENP Program is critical to ensure we can allocate funds toward our total budgeted patrollable hours for the year. The number of patrol hours is directly related to the number of paid ENP members, so the more member participation the more police presence.
